Types of cornices for curtains
Before ordering curtains, many have a question: "And what to hang them on?". In this article, we will tell you: what are the options for eaves? what to pay attention to? and most importantly, why don't you rush to order cornices if you don't yet know what exactly the curtains will be?
And so, why you should not rush to buy cornices:
- Banal, the design may not suit the chosen curtain;
- It can be too short or too long;
- As an option, the load is not calculated, the cornice will simply bend;
- Fourth, you will mount the eaves close to each other, or to the niche, or you will leave no room for decoration and then the curtains will be difficult to move;
- Or you want a perfect fold in the curtains, and for this you need something elementary - the correct distance between the curtain and the tulle, without which such a fold will not work.
To avoid all this, let's figure out what kind of cornices there are, what nuances should be taken into account, and this will definitely help you with your choice.
Often people do not pay attention to cornices or give the task to repairmen to choose the cornice and install it themselves. And we always remember the story when we arrive at an object where expensive, high-quality repairs have been made and we see a niche in which a profile cornice was planned, and a cheap decorative cornice from a mass market is mounted in it, we can't imagine how it fit there)) ) And it looks, of course, not beautiful and not logical.
Or another situation, when the niche under the eaves is so small that barely one row can be mounted. Undoubtedly, in the first case, in the second case, you will have to rework and pay for work and materials again, or suffer and every time you close the curtains, remember everyone who is in touch with those eaves)))
What kind of eaves are there?
I would divide all cornices into two large groups:
- decorative and
- profile, hidden installation, which are mounted mainly in a niche.
Decorative cornices
When which eaves to use. Of course, if your cornice will also serve as a decor, an element of design in the interior, then of course you need to choose only a decorative cornice. If you have a classic style, then brass, gold or antique colors with interesting endings, beautiful holders that will decorate the interior are best. And if the height of the ceiling also allows, then you can choose large, massive ends and rings, and all this will only emphasize the richness of the interior and its style.
Or on the contrary, you have a simple laconic interior and you need to add interesting elements to it, then you can choose white, black, or steel cornices with modern tips and stylish rings. Such pipes are square or rectangular in shape.
Please note that such cornices will always be more expensive than profile ones. And one more thing, if the wall is more than 3.5 meters wide and 3 m high and you want classic cornices with rings, then you need to put 4 brackets, and this will interfere with the correct functionality of the curtains. There is a way out - to put profile pipes that look like ordinary ones, but then the rings don't ride on them, but there are built-in hooks. The visual appearance of such cornices is similar, but they are functionally different.
Profile cornices
The second category of cornices is profile. They do not have any design content, they are simple in appearance - white, black or gray, and they are mostly mounted in niches. Such cornices can be of different sizes, from the smallest to infinity, because they can be connected and this does not affect the movement of runners. The longest bar is 8 meters and it is cut to the required size.
Such cornices can be bent into an arch or bay window.
Before ordering profile cornices, you need to consider several nuances:
- What exactly is the weight of the curtains planned?
- What control should it be: manual, cord or electric control?
- How many types of curtains are designed?
- What kind of folds will be in the curtain?
- Do you need an additional rail for decoration?
- What width should the niche be?
Therefore, I recommend that you consult with a curtain designer, or invite our or another eaves specialist for measurements or a preliminary consultation.
Next, I will talk about this type of eaves, which combines both profile and decorative. Mostly such pipes are either square or flat rectangular. In most cases, they are suitable for modern minimalist interiors. This is a profile that is attached to the brackets, as in a decorative cornice, but runners with hooks ride on the profile, not on the rings. Such pipes can be in different shades: antique, chrome, matte gold, silver, parts, black, or white.
Types of profiled ceiling cornices
1. Double budget cornices, which are mounted both in a niche and directly to the ceiling. They are either rounded at the edge or straight. There can be different distances between the rails and they are chosen depending on the design of curtains and tulle. The cost of such cornices starts at UAH 220 per square meter. We almost always add more hooks and runners to the standard equipment.
2. The most popular profile ks bends according to the pattern and can be controlled, and if there are several types of curtains and tulle, such a cornice is ideal, because you can adjust the distance between the rails.
3. Cornices also have the feature that the control of the curtains can be laced, when you pull the cord and the curtain opens, it is convenient when access to the curtains is limited, for example, there is a sofa or a work table, or in order not to move the curtains every time with your hands. So, you can control the lace control, or set it to be automatic, that is, when the curtains are opened and closed with a remote control or a key.
4. Next, cornices that can be hung in different shapes. These are mostly arches, bay windows, or curved corners, but sometimes there are even circles. Such a cornice comes with a long rail, and its installation occurs directly when it is attached to the wall. They are suitable for medium-weight curtains up to 3 m high. When we need to make an arch or bend corners, we use such cornices, which are already bent during production according to the patterns drawn by the installers.
5. Another type of profile cornices is flexible or straight plastic. They are manufactured by the well-known Swedish company Forest, they differ from aluminum ones in that runners run more quietly, but for them there must be a perfectly flat surface, because there may be nuances during installation.
6. Another profile cornice, which we call mini, is suitable in cases where the gap between the window and the ceiling is extremely small and such thin rails are mounted so that the window can be opened.
Pay attention to how diverse and wide the selection of decorative cornices is. What to pay attention to when choosing:
First of all, it is an element of decor, so it is important to combine it, for example, with the color of the chandelier, or with door handles, or accessories that are on the furniture. If, for example, there are elements of brass or gold, the color of the decorative cornice is selected accordingly.
Such cornices come in different diameters, at different heights, and there are various finishes: metal, wooden, and even with crystals that sparkle when the light hits them.
The higher the height in the room and the more massive the curtains, the larger the diameter of the pipe should be. Then the eaves look beautiful and organic. Conversely, if you do not have a high height, 250 or 270, you do not need such bulky cornices, you can safely take a diameter of 19 or 25 mm. Rings of different diameters and designs can be selected for such decorative cornices. By the way, there are special inserts for the rings that allow them to slide perfectly quietly!!!! along the pipe
As you have already seen, the selection of cornices is huge, and there are various nuances that must be considered before ordering. Therefore, our recommendation is to choose cornices with a specialist, and ideally to have him come to you beforehand, see the task and offer a solution. Or come to our salon and we will choose a cornice that will work functionally for many years.
