Common Mistakes That Ruin a Room's Interior Design

It often happens that after investing a considerable amount in renovation, we do not get the desired result. And it is not always clear why. In this article, we will talk about the mistakes that, in our opinion, negatively affect the overall picture of the entire interior.

1. Incorrectly chosen sofa. The sofa is a large piece of furniture that takes up a lot of space in the room. Therefore, if you choose a so-so sofa, then the whole impression of the interior will be so-so. Usually, such a piece of furniture serves us for many years, and its choice should be approached carefully. And we are not talking about the cost, because a sofa with a disgusting design and upholstery can cost exactly the same.

2. Incorrectly chosen curtains. The general appearance of the room can be raised to a new level with the help of curtains or completely ruined. We wrote about this earlier in our article "How to Choose Curtain Fabric". It contains many useful tips on what mistakes to avoid when choosing curtains.

3. Hanging plastic window sills built into the wall. This phrase indicates three mistakes at once that betray an unprofessional room design.

4. A sofa completely covered with a bedspread. And here we are not talking about beautiful textile decor! There are two reasons why it is hidden under a blanket or bedspread. The first may follow from point #1 - an incorrectly chosen or old sofa. The second is to protect a new sofa from abrasion, stains, etc. In any case, it looks irrelevant and always devalues the interior.

5. Ugly joints. On the floor, on the walls, on the tiles. Even if you bought very expensive flooring or tiles, poorly designed joints can instantly cheapen the final result.

6. Dirt and mess. We think everything is clear here.

7. Single central lighting. Lighting has a very strong impact on the interior. It is no secret that most apartments and houses, unfortunately, have only central lighting. Of course, it is more correct to use a combination of functional and point light sources. But if the renovation has already been done, we recommend adding additional sources, buying a table lamp or a stylish floor lamp.

Additional points:

  • Lack of greenery. Plants perfectly complement any interior and create a cozy atmosphere.
  • Too many small items. Clutter can visually reduce the space and make the room look messy.
  • Inappropriate accessories. It is important that the accessories are in harmony with the overall style of the interior.
  • Ignoring natural light. If possible, try to maximize the amount of natural light entering the room.

By avoiding these mistakes, you can create a stylish and harmonious interior that will please you for many years to come.
