Tips from our professionals (how to care for curtains to make them last longer)

Keeping Your Curtains Looking Fresh
Let's face it, taking care of curtains is a must. The best way to clean and care for them really depends on the fabric and how they're hung. Here are some tips from the pros to keep your curtains looking their best for years to come.
Dry Cleaning Your Curtains
Sunlight, dust, and dirt can take a toll on any fabric. While you might only need to wash curtains once or twice a year, dry cleaning can be done much more often. We recommend dry cleaning your curtains monthly. You can do this by vacuuming them with a soft brush attachment on a low setting, especially if they're made of a heavy fabric. Dry cleaning before washing is also a great idea.
Washing Your Curtains
Before you toss your curtains in the washing machine, make sure the fabric is machine-washable. Check the care label for specific instructions. Fabrics like tapestry, velvet, and velour can be tricky and are often best left to the professionals. If your curtains are machine-washable, here are a few things to keep in mind. Remove all hooks, rings, or grommets before washing, no matter what material they're made of. They can damage the fabric or get damaged themselves. Use cold water and a gentle detergent. And always use a mesh laundry bag, especially for delicate fabrics like lace or sheer curtains. This will protect them from getting tangled or damaged. Avoid direct sunlight when drying your curtains. No matter how durable the fabric, the color can fade. Once they're about 80% dry, you can iron them on a low setting from the inside out.
Taking care of your curtains doesn't have to be complicated. With a little care, they'll look great for years to come.
